I’m not sure how I suckered myself into seeing this film.  Somewhere, I got the impression that it would be better than you would expect but it was exactly what you would expect, which is to say that it was a very fast moving and utterly implausible action film.  It is easily the best liked by critics of the MI series (now on its fourth film).  I haven’t seen them all but I don’t remember really liking any of them.  Having said all of that, I was entertained.  The action is solid and so utterly ridiculous as to be on the edge of intentionally funny.  Thanks to the presence of Simon Pegg, there was a fair amount of humor that would have been distracting in a better film but is useful in this one to counterbalance Cruise’s overheated seriousness. While it is neither as sexy, stylish or fun as a James Bond film (the next of which, “Skyfall,” is due next summer), it was more entertaining than most blockbusters.
