Now that we’re entering the final phases of what looks likely to be a not-particularly close election, David Brin has a suggestion. It involves the winning candidate making a pledge to offer the losing candidate something symbolic, but still meaningful. What could that be, you ask? Read his short post.

  1. Let them eat cake! Maybe a moderate republican for Sec of Defense? A Libertarian Republican for Sec of Education? I for one would like to see what a small injection of Libertarianism would do for our country. Probably alienate both liberals and conservatives.

  2. I will give Brin credit for a unique idea but, ultimately, I doubt it would work. In fact, I think McCain would be insulted by it. Let him accept defeat with dignity, don’t throw him a bone, particularly one that we all know would be as meaningless as the one Brin suggests.
